The following article details result obtained from an assessment of gender issues in nine hospitals located in the North, Central and South of the country, the locations are project sites of the Handicap International (HI). The HI project interventions mainly focus on technical support to improve the quality and capacity of rehabilitation services for people with disabilities. In addition, the project also concentrates on social issues, including gender equality. Supporting and caring for people with disabilities at home, in hospital and in the community is directly linked to promoting gender equality, and it has been proven to improve life quality of people with disabilities, particularly people with brain damage. As part of this study, a gender assessment was conducted. It aimed to understand gender relations and gender barriers within family of people with disabilities and in health care services. Through the understanding of gender knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of the two target groups, the research team provided a general picture of gender differences among patients with disabilities, analyzed its causes and effects on the care for people with disabilities. On that basis, the research team also proposed some recommendations on gender mainstreaming activities for the project.
