Summary:
In recent years, on television, game shows have flourished, attracting a large audience on television channels and digital platforms. The coverage of these programs along with their high ratings has demonstrated their enormous impact on the needs and preferences of television viewers. Therefore, gender-sensitive and well-integrated game shows will be an important communication channel contributing to raising gender awareness and promoting gender equality in line with the guidelines of the Party and policies and laws of the Vietnamese State; conversely, if these game shows lack gender sensitivity, they will reinforce gender stereotypes. From a preliminary survey, we have noticed that there are still quite a few gender “grains of sand” in game shows. This paper clarifies the current manifestations of gender bias in the game shows “Who is that person” and “You want to date”, through some forms of expression such as the context in which the character appears, language, expressions
of guests/players, guidance and direction of the MC.
