Summary:
Like many countries around the world, school violence is quite common at all levels and classrooms and has become a concern in schools in Vietnam. This article reflects the initial research results of the topic: „The current situation of school violence and the need for support of students at some ethnic boarding high schools in school violence prevention“ implemented by a group of lecturers from the Faculty of Social Work, Vietnam Women‘s Academy in 2023. The results of the first phase survey on 102 students in grade 12 of ethnic minority boarding high schools showed that during the period of studying and living at ethnic minority boarding schools, 5.9% of students have ever been attacked by other students with tools (belts, sticks, bricks, stones...); 12.7% of students have ever been beaten/punched/kicked (no weapon used); 7.8% of students have been intentionally pushed, struggled, hurt, or injured by their friends. The number of students experiencing mental violence ranges from 8.0 to 13.7% depending on the specific manifestations. The number of students whose friends robbed them of money and belongings accounted for 11.8%. The number of students forced to watch depraved cultural products for sexual harassment by other students accounts for 10.0%. Most students participating in the survey are in need of support to prevent school violence.
